Apples are made into compote, grain is made into muesli, wheat germ is turned into oil – it is mainly small and medium-sized companies, alongside the well-known players in the industry, that process fruit, vegetables and grain fresh from the field. The wide range includes products for end consumers but also intermediate products for other food industries or products for large customers such as canteens and fast-food restaurants.

The companies’ commitment to sustainability helps to reduce food waste on the way from the field to processing. This includes innovative concepts to utilize fruit, vegetables and crops as completely as possible – along the entire supply chain from origin to product. The industry is an important part of the transformation towards a more plant-based diet and a reduction in unsustainable meat consumption. .
The industry is also driving transformation itself by promoting organic and regenerative farms as suppliers, developing sustainable processing, marketing and transport strategies, using renewable energies and implementing energy efficiency measures in production.
