What is score4more's mission and purpose?

score4more’s mission is to make sustainability pioneers strong and successful in the market. Pioneers drive transformation, break new ground, invest in new technologies and business models, and take risks. When true sustainability pioneers succeed in the market, market forces can work for the transformation towards sustainability as a whole. With score4more, we give pioneers and their stakeholders a tool which they can use to take the next step towards full sustainability and credibly present their achievements to customers, investors and further stakeholders to gain competitive advantages.

Where does score4more originates?

score4more emerged from the German Sustainability Award. The German Sustainability Award has been honoring pioneers of transformation since 2008 on the basis of application surveys. With the increasing number of TSC declarations, the question arose about the extent to which companies could also participate in the award directly with their TSC declaration. This question gave rise to the scoring that was used in the German Sustainability Award as part of the company competitions.

Why does score4more use the TSC as database?

The TSC is the most promising sustainability reporting standard for medium-size companies across the European Union. Unlike other reporting standards, it is simple, comparable, non-commercial and easy to use for businesses of any size.

We do not have a TSC declaration yet. Can we still use score4more?

Yes, scoring is also possible even if no TSC declaration has been published. In that case, we use other existing documents that describe the company’s sustainability activities, such as a freely designed sustainability report or a TSC draft declaration. Please get in touch and we will make you an individual offer.

Who is running score4more?

score4more is a product of time2sustain GmbH, founded by Dr. Matthias Kannegiesser. time2sustain sees itself as a company builder that develops innovative digital product ideas for companies to accelerate their transformation towards sustainability. time2sustain works openly and collaboratively in its approach and partners with actors who are also working to achieve this transformation.

How is the quality and independence of the scoring ensured?

Thanks to many years of scoring companies for the German Sustainability Award, we can draw on extensive experience and expertise in conducting independent evaluations. A detailed methodology and process description lies at the heart of our quality assurance, clearly defining criteria for analyst evaluations as well as a standardized scoring process undergoing a 4-eye review. With our ambition to drive the sustainability transformation, we work in the interest of future generations and evaluate companies‘ sustainability performance in an honest, fair and balanced way.

How can sustainability performance really be evaluated? Why are key figures not directly compared?

Our experience is that given the current data situation, a company’s sustainability performance can only be meaningfully assessed using strategic levels classification methods. Comparing direct key figures, as is already done by rating agencies, is still in its infancy. The underlying data, calculation methodologies and completeness are not yet standardized, and thus not yet comparable. Consequently, ratings for the same company differ greatly between different ratings. As long as key figures are not yet comparable, strategic levels scoring help to differentiate between different performance levels. Here, levels are defined to prevent data uncertainties from influencing a company’s fundamental classification. This makes level scoring more relevant for top management, as it is not about gradual improvements, but rather about fundamental strategic positioning and the corresponding strategic improvement measures.

How does score4more differ from existing ratings and rankings?

score4more is primarily an opportunity approach. Unlike ratings that are aimed at the capital market and emphasize risks, score4more focuses on companies‘ opportunities, best practices, and positive performance step-ups for transformation. In addition, score4more’s ESG Passport changes the role of the company from a rated object to an acting subject. The Passport is intended to be a tool that a company earns itself through its performance and that can be used universally with the company’s stakeholders.

Why do you need an ESG Passport?

The need for transparency and assured sustainability performance is steadily growing in light of demands from investors, customers, public clients, and stakeholder groups, such as employees and other stakeholders. A company’s degree of sustainability is becoming a decisive factor, both in employer branding and for its reputation in the market. To date, however, there are only instruments that certify some sustainability aspects (e.g. ISO 14001 environmental management or certificates for work and family, Great Place to Work or purchasing-specific issues) or instruments are proprietary, not inclusive, too expensive or only available to large companies. The ESG Passport intends to close this gap.
