Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing, recognized a close connection between environmental influences and illnesses in 1860. If the consequences of climate change are particularly difficult for old and sick people in long-term facilities or in outpatient care, this industry also has the power to make a contribution.

Managers and facility operators are in demand when it comes to decisions regarding energy supply, procurement, employee mobility, waste generation or kitchen operations. It is important for employees to behave in an environmentally conscious manner and to promote climate awareness in their everyday work.
Kindergartens and care facilities have a responsibility not only to set an example of sustainability, but also to make the careful treatment of the environment and fellow human beings a learning field. The focus is on the social impact on the people cared for and the working conditions for the employees. It is important to get more people interested in social professions through good childcare ratios, more attractive working conditions and a family-friendly, flexible working culture.
