Sustainability in Schools and Universities

In daycare centers, schools and universities, people not only teach and learn, but also enable people to act and take action themselves. Anyone who shows what sustainability means but does not live it themselves is not a good role model.

Educational institutions become sustainable places of learning and experience if they take innovative measures for the conscious use of natural resources in concrete, everyday operations in classrooms, cafeterias or sports halls. Transformation succeeds when “education for sustainable development” is thought of holistically and implemented broadly. Established at management level, anchored in teaching and practiced through the active participation of students, sustainability is a school in the best sense.
“Green” learning spaces promote environmental and climate protection. They stimulate the transfer of knowledge. The learners take knowledge home with them and initiate changes in their environment. Whether vegetable gardens in daycare, student companies with fairly traded products or university partnerships with countries in the global south – sustainability takes many forms. Good working conditions, motivated and qualified teachers and good supervision ratios are guarantees of successful, sustainable educational work. .

The industry includes, for example, kindergartens and preschools, secondary schools, universities and technical colleges as well as other universities.
