Sustainability in Health Care

Clinics and practices are energy guzzlers. The demands on air conditioning and system technology are increasing, and large appliances are driving up electricity consumption. There is hardly any scope for investment. In order to invest in renewable energies and efficient control technology, operators rely on energy-saving contracting, for example.

More sustainable operations include lower resource consumption and environmentally conscious waste management as well as sustainable procurement. All processes and operations must be optimized so that staff can work better and ensure the best possible healthcare.
The hospital of the future puts patients and employees at the center. Differentiated profiles (e.g. special clinic vs. basic care) can make high-quality care cost-effective and at the same time create better working conditions for the staff. The shortage of skilled workers and the supply crisis can be countered, for example, with more family-friendly working conditions, a modern work culture and better qualification and integration of immigrant skilled workers. Resident doctors, physiotherapists and other practices are increasingly making climate protection an issue. Operating processes, energy and material consumption can be made more efficient. “Green practice guidelines” reduce operating costs and raise social awareness of climate issues among patients.

The industry includes, for example, hospitals, preventive and rehabilitation clinics, doctor’s offices and other activities in the healthcare sector.
